Over the last 30 years, the financial landscape facing retirees has changed significantly. One’s former employer paid a lifetime pension and bank CDs paid a reasonable 5% interest rate per year. That is no longer the case. Employers are replacing guaranteed pensions with 401(k)s, and the Federal Reserve is subsidizing borrowers by forcing the interest rates on safe investments down to almost zero. Christine Benz will discuss these developments and the challenges now facing the recently retired and those planning to do so soon. She’ll share her recommendations for negotiating the new reality and introduce a total return “bucket” approach to planning your retirement.
