Tax Guide Correction: Medicare Part B Maximum Premium

Medicare.gov posted corrected 2016 income breakpoints for 2018 Medicare Part B monthly premiums. The maximum premium of $428.60 will be paid by those filing joint tax returns whose 2016 modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) is above $320,000 (not $428,000, as originally reported in the AAII Tax Guide). For taxpayers filing as singles, the maximum monthly premium of $428.60 will be paid by individuals whose 2016 MAGI is above $160,000 (not $214,000, as shown in the print version of the AAII Tax Guide). Complete charts of Medicare Part B premiums and MAGI breakpoints for 2017 and 2018 can be found at: www.medicare.gov/your-medicare-costs/part-b-costs/part-b-costs.html

  1. It appears to me that there were multiple errors in the Tax Guide. It should be republished and sent out again with corrections

  2. First time I comment in my “on and off membership” of over thirty years. Please do not send out the Annual Personal Tax Planning before end of year with admitted faulty data. The world was screaming for source of calculators that would accurately track the proposals up until the signature. But, after passage and signing there is basically nothing that summarizes any and all changes. Financial journalists need to take time away from Holidays and publish what the readers need. Otherwise, it is waste of time to read your writings, especially the December , 2017 issue.
