Topic: Can Income Be Increased Without “Yielding” to Temptation and Will Equities Catch a Second Wind?
Speaker: Sam Stovall, Chief Equity Strategist, S&P Capital IQ
Sam Stovall will explain why he believes that the half-speed growth projection for the U.S. is threatened by the expected European recession and soft landing (at a minimum) in China. In this economic context, he will discuss whether earnings will rise 6% in 2012 as estimated or whether fluctuating currencies, flagging economies and faltering profits will result in a decline in the S&P 500. In either case, he foresees interest rates remaining near zero through 2014. Thus, increasing returns in equities without major risk, whether through capital gains or dividend income, becomes a major issue for investors.
